Exhibition of comic art in Beijing, China! I am honored to be included in this group of wonderful creators.The exhibition ISLAND OF LOVE at the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Beijing is inspired by the life and work of Nadežda Petrović, a Serbian painter and activist. The exhibition’s name is also the name of one of Nadežda’s famous paintings (oil on canvas, 1907-8).The exhibition was initially presented at the Nova Festival - a festival of contemporary comics in Pančevo in 2023, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Nadežda Petrović, a painter and illustrator whose works are the first modern achievements in Serbian art at the beginning of the twentieth century. Nadežda was avant-garde in many ways, and at a time when it was not socially acceptable to do nudes, she boldly painted them in loving embraces. The exhibition artists responded to the theme of the same name with a short comic or illustration.The festival board (Jana Adamović, Saša Rakezić alias Aleksandar Zograf, Monika Husar) selected 42 stylistically and generationally different authors with various interpretations and ideas. Nadežda Petrović is an important artist. She built her art on the foundations of the creativity of all her famous predecessors, whom she admired. Her art reflected her time and anticipated everything that would be in art a century after her. She stood fearlessly for her beliefs that art should serve the progress of humanity.The exhibition will be open until April 25, 2025. The program was implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. #ivana_f

Today is the second (and cheaper) day of the Vancouver Comic & Toy Show #25 at the PNE! @ryanheshka rarely participates in shows, so today is your chance to see him in person and buy books, quality prints and riso mini-comics. I got a nice drawing and dedication on one of my favourite comic books, Mean Girls Club. Today I think about my mother who passed away in 2017. It's her birthday and coincidentally, a page from a #comic about her drawing skill is exhibited at a comic arts festival in Serbia. This comic is included in an important anthology that brings together female authors from Serbia.
